October 2005 Floods

Just a few shots of the flooded rivers in the area. These were shot the day after the water crested because I didn't have my camera with me the previous day. DOH!

The main entry street into Palmer, MA is Boston Road (Route 20). During the crest of the floods, the water was almost to the speed limit sign.
From the same point, this is a shot over the bridge. This water is normally running slowly with several riffles.
Someone's back yard. Notice the tether ball.
Normally there wouldn't be any water in this shot.

This is a photo of all the crap my wife keeps on her rear view mirror. In the background you'll see the Chicopee River near flood stage. This road was closed the previous day.
This is the Red Bridge dam area. There is usually no debris. If anyone from New Hamphire is missing stuff, it's probably in here.
The water here is usually just spilling over with some light churning at the base of the dam. Today it sounded like Niagara Falls.
I wanted to get out of the car and take a photo, but with 50 or so detoured motorists behind me, I decided against it. This is a point in the Quaboag River that can normally be waded from bank to bank and has several riffles cascading through it.
